You’re receiving this monthly newsletter because you’ve been a valuable part of my life in some shape or form (or I’d like for you to be 🙂). See this video for context.
Every year, I set word for the year. My word in 2023 was create; my word in 2024 was focus. I can confidently say that I accomplished this wholeheartedly. I worked 10hrs+ a day / 6 days a week, was less forward with events and meeting people, and spent a lot of time learning.
2024 was quite the year: first international friends trip to Europe, moved out of my first apartment, graduated from an incredible job, moved to the Bay, rebuilt my life in the US, relapsed with ITP, bought a car, miraculously got better, deepened my existing relationships despite the distance.
I’m grateful to all of you who’ve been part of my journey so far. Wishing continued success, happiness, and health in 2025!
My updates
Came back to Toronto and visited my high school, teachers, and previous workplaces. Had an opportunity to speak with some students on college, career, and character.
Spent the majority of the break slowing down, gathering my thoughts, and figuring out an ideal 2025 after what felt like an 8 month sprint. A lot of reflections, life audits, and blank thoughts.
Set my word for 2025: experiment. I’m still 23, and I don’t have it all figured out. Before I do, I’m in a mode of fewer commitments, more experiments; and once I do: more commitments, fewer experiments.
On my mind
On meeting people too good for you. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some incredible people: founders, parents, creatives, hobbyists. The common thread: I thought they were all too good for me. I’d love to do this more in 2025—let me know if there’s anyone I should meet!
On a systems audit. One of my favourite articles by James Clear advises on setting systems rather than goals. Winners and losers have the same goals, but the difference stems from their approach—systems. I spent some time this break looking into this, and building some for the new year. This update is an example of one, and my fast email response time is another.
On fears. Rohin Sharma famously says “the fears we don’t face become our limits,” a thought that has permeated my Christmas holidays. This has been the core basis of setting my new year systems.
Lmk if you are (or know someone who is) working on or thinking about the above!
